Important Information for Homeowners and Landlords

If you’re purchasing or selling a property occupied by residents receiving public rental assistance, additional rules may apply.

Some important considerations include:

  • Existing leases generally remain in effect after a foreclosure sale.
  • Residents typically must receive at least 90 days’ notice before vacating.
  • Different rules may apply if the purchaser intends to occupy the home as a primary residence.
  • Sellers of homes occupied by Section 8 residents may need to coordinate with the appropriate housing agency before closing.

Understanding these requirements can help buyers and sellers avoid unexpected delays during a transaction.
