My 3 Favorite Low Investment, High-reward Hikes in Crested Butte.

I'm often asked where to go in the CB area and often, folks are looking for something that gives them that heart-stopping beauty of Crested Butte. However, they may not want an all-day or all-weekend hiking investment. So I'm sharing some of my favorite low-investment, high-reward hikes:

Baxter's Gulch

It’s an intermediate trail approximately 11 and a half miles round trip. It is a steep windy incline which is what gives you an immediate payoff in views. The wildflowers pop and you can turn around whenever you feel ready. The trailhead is immediately out of town and you will definitely want to bring your camera.

Scarp's Ridge

It’s an also intermediate to advanced trail–approximately 4 and a half miles round trip. It’s a nice incremental climb flowers amongst the hillside Mountain Vista views and also views of Peeler Basin, Oh-Be-Joyful, and you can even see houses from the Crested Butte area. the views from the peak are jaw-dropping and you get bonus points for getting up early and watching the sunrise from the top.

Lower Loop

This is a great beginner trail that is approximately 6 and a half miles round trip. You can stay on this trail for a nice meandering walk with easy views of Peanut Lake and Mt. Crested Butte or you can easily add in trail extensions such as Wood Walks, Upper Loop, etc.

These are some of my favorite local trails, what are yours that you think should’ve made this list?
