I am a big fan of super-hero movies. Yes, they may be a tad cheesy, overly sensational, but you can’t deny the adrenaline rush and the feel-good ending. I always leave these movies feeling like I can accomplish anything.
There are certain sports and events that do this for me as well. Long drives with overly-loud and catchy music. An amazing powder ski day where your skis take a life of their own and carve a path through the pristine snow. Or a perfect dirtbike trail where you get into the flow of the turns and landscape and you feel like an extension of the machine.
All of these items put me into what a lot people will call a flow state. You know that feeling when everything works, and you work. It’s a moving meditation that brings this moment of “now” and everything else melts away. Then there’s that afterglow. It makes everything make sense for those moments proceeding.
The only thing that I wish I could change is that the energy from these activities seems to last a finite time. If I wait too long before my next activity session, my energy and mental state can slip. And things in general can seem less in flow.
I suppose my question would be. If we know these things are good for us. They bring us happiness, a flow-state, a healthier life or whatever your action may be, why do we not spend more time protecting this time?
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I hope everyone had a wonderful Sunday and look forward to connecting with you tomorrow.
